“Neftchi” basketball club, representing Azerbaijan in the European Cup, aims to advance to the next stage.
According to İdman.biz, this was stated by the team’s coach Davit Chivchivadze in an interview with Report news agency.
The Georgian specialist emphasized the strength of their opponents in the group they will compete in: “This is a historic moment for the club. Our team is participating in the European Cup for the first time. I am proud to have contributed to this achievement. Regarding the opponents, Bursaspor is one of the strongest teams in Europe when playing at home and regularly participates in the playoffs. Trefl won the Polish championship last season and the national cup this year. Kalev/Cramo is the recent Estonian champion. The group is very tough, and we will form a team capable of competing with these rivals. We will do our best to achieve the desired result. Our first goal is to qualify for the next stage. Since this is our first participation, every victory is important.”
He also mentioned changes in the coaching staff: “We have made major changes in the roster and coaching staff. Vitaly Stepanovskyy is a great coach and person. I met him this summer at a congress held in Greece, and we had very interesting conversations. His experience and enthusiasm will definitely help us achieve our goals. I wish the head coach and Neftchi success in the upcoming competitions. I want to tell all Neftchi fans, Azerbaijani sports lovers, and especially basketball fans to come and support us. Playing in a full arena always gives confidence.”
Neftchi will compete in Group I of the European Cup against Kalev/Cramo (Estonia), Bursaspor (Turkiye), and Trefl (Poland).
