Last season, Webster Simeus, a Haitian-American basketball player who played for Sheki and now represents Denmark’s TEAM FOG NAESTVED, gave an interview to the press service of the Azerbaijani club.
According to Idman.biz, Simeus reflected on his career in Azerbaijan and shared his future plans.
– You joined Sheki just before the winter break last season. What did you research about Azerbaijan when the offer came?
– I knew that Azerbaijan was a peaceful and quiet country, and I saw that when I arrived. Many players also recommended that I take the opportunity to come here.
– Did you know any American basketball players in Azerbaijan before coming?
– Yes, I knew a player from Sabah and Ganja from my college days.
– Before Azerbaijan, you played in Greece and Palestine. How does Azerbaijan compare to those countries?
– The championship in Greece is more aggressive, and most basketball players there are very tall.
– You lived in Miami, a city full of beaches. Did living in Sheki cause any issues for you?
– The city where I went to university is quite similar to Shaki, so I didn’t face many challenges living there.
– You left Sheki after the season ended. What can you say about the team?
– I love Sheki. The people are very friendly, and the players have great respect for each other.
– Whose decision was it to leave the team?
– My contract was for just one year, and when it ended, I left. But who knows, I might return to Shaki one day.
– What Azerbaijani words have you learned?
– I know "Nətərsən, qaqaş?" (How are you, bro?) and "yaxşı" (good).
