Arif Asadov: "It takes time to fight against such an opponent" - INTERVIEW

"I congratulate everyone on the occasion of the first victory of the year."

Idman.biz reports that Arif Asadov, the coach of the Azerbaijan national team, said this for the first time at a press conference after the match against Mongolia (1:0) within the framework of the "FIFA series – Edition 2024" project organized in Baku.

The experienced specialist said that it was a difficult game: "We knew that the opponent would play more defensively and they would be prone to counter-attacks. In such matches, you need to score quickly. The main thing is that the team was patient and played until the end.

- What would you attribute the fact that we defeated such an opponent with such strength?

- We treat each opponent with respect. This is football. Some teams can score goals due to individual qualities. We have rarely played against such teams. We are not used to this football. Therefore, it takes time to fight against such an opponent.

- Were you satisfied with Ramil Sheydayev's game?

- Of course, we know that he played few games in Turkiye. There is a lot of difference between Ramil's previous form and the current one. He was trying to show off. Although he is not exactly the same Ramil, I think he shows his potential.

- Who were you satisfied with today?

- We will play against two different opponents and two different systems. We will make changes in the game against Bulgaria.

- Do you expect the match to end in a draw? How would you have reacted if we had not been able to differentiate ourselves in extra minutes?

- It's football, anything can happen. We wanted the main victory. We were excited after the 80th minute. If we had scored from the beginning, it would have followed. We used all the opportunities at our disposal to stand out.

- Are we going to play as number one against the Bulgarian national team?

- We watched their games against Serbia and Hungary. We have conducted our own analysis. Of course, we play at home. We have to make them feel that we are the owner of the house.

- In today's match, there were certain gaps in the defense line in the first half. Will we be able to beat Bulgaria with such a defensive line?

- We may change the defensive line.
