Belarusian goalkeeper Andrey Sinenko, who previously played for Iravan and Imishli in Azerbaijan, has praised the standard of Azerbaijani football.
As reported by İdman.Biz, Sinenko, who currently represents Belarusian club Dnepr, believes the Azerbaijan Premier League is stronger than the Belarusian championship.
The goalkeeper, who experienced both the lower division and the top flight during his time in Azerbaijan, highlighted significant differences between the two countries.
"The Azerbaijan Premier League is a completely different level. The financial opportunities, stadiums and atmosphere are different. I don't think the levels can be compared – the Azerbaijani championship is currently stronger than ours. There are many foreign players in the teams. Clubs have the resources to bring in players such as Simic, Puchacz, Jankovic, Duran, Mikkels and Enrique," Sinenko said.
The Belarusian also pointed to the level of domestic competition in Azerbaijan. According to Sinenko, the fact that Qarabag reached the UEFA Champions League play-offs last season but still failed to win the domestic title illustrates how competitive the league has become.
He also highlighted Sabah's qualification for the league phase of the Champions League and their 4-0 victory over the Danish champions on the way to the competition's main stage.
Sinenko also confirmed that reports linking him with a summer move to Qarabag were accurate.
"Qarabag's interest was real. But this is football, and the transfer didn't happen. That's how circumstances turned out. I'm at Dnepr now and I'm trying to help the team as much as possible," the goalkeeper said.
Sinenko has made three appearances for Dnepr so far, keeping clean sheets in two of them.
