Nazim Babayev misses higher medal due to technical issues at Kazakhstan memorial

Azerbaijani athlete Nazim Babayev could not win a higher-grade medal at the XXXIV Gosanov Memorial held in Almaty, Kazakhstan due to technical reasons.

Idman.biz reports that the 27-year-old athlete spoke about this to Report news agency.

Babayev, who won the bronze medal in the long jump, said he felt good during the competition: "It was my next time participating in this tournament. It is a bronze-level event in World Athletics. Actually, my plan was to perform well in the triple jump there. But on the first day, I preferred to try myself in the long jump and won the bronze medal. I felt good. I wanted to show this at the tournament. Due to technical reasons, I placed third. I showed this result on my first attempt. I thought my results would improve in the next attempts, but due to technical shortcomings, I couldn’t do it."

The athlete added that on the second day of the Memorial, he competed in the triple jump: "Unfortunately, my performance was weak due to the weather conditions. Even though there was heavy rain, the tournament was not postponed. In such conditions, the risk of injury is also high. But overall, the organization was good."

Nazim Babayev won the bronze medal at the XXXIV Gosanov Memorial with a result of 7.48 meters.
