"We want to make the Khankendi Ultramarathon an annual event to celebrate our victory history and share it with the world."

Elshan Guliyev, Vice Chairman of the Running for All Committee of the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation, made this statement in an interview with journalists, Idman.biz reports.

He shared insights into the preparations for the upcoming Gabala - Khankendi Ultramarathon, which will take place from April 10-13: "As you know, this is the second time this ultramarathon is being held. Last year, athletes ran 380 km from Khankendi to Baku. This year, we will travel from Gabala to Khankendi. In addition to Azerbaijani athletes, representatives from Turkiye, Russia, Moldova, and Georgia will also participate."

Guliyev emphasized the growing interest in the event: "86 athletes were originally registered for the ultramarathon. One athlete will unfortunately not be able to compete due to an injury. The athletes are well-prepared both physically and psychologically for the race."

It is important to note that participants will start in Gabala and complete the 192 km journey to the finish line in Khankendi. The race will be divided into four stages: Gabala - Agdash (55 km), Agdash - Barda (65 km), Barda - Aghdam (44 km), and Aghdam - Khankendi (28 km). The winners of each stage will be awarded, and the overall champions of the ultramarathon will receive the grand prize.
