The inaugural ceremony of the Khankendi-Baku ultra-marathon held jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation.

As the correspondent of reports, the marathon has been organized within the Sports Week and Year of Solidarity for the Sake of a Green World.

In the race, the president of the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation Javid Gurbanov, the head of the sports department of the MYS, Elnur Mammadov, and the head of the sector Sevda Mirzayeva participated.

At the event, the memory of the martyrs who died for the integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan was commemorated with a minute of silence.

Speaking at the ceremony, Javid Gurbanov wished success to the participants of the race and called the start of the marathon in Khankendi a great honor: "All this was made possible at the expense of the blood of our martyrs and veterans, as a result of the strong policy of Mr. President. This is the first international march held in Azerbaijan. The participants traveled a long way from here to Baku. they will do. Let the best win the race."

Elnur Mammadov noted that we are experiencing historic moments at the next event within the "Sports Week": "We express our gratitude to Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, who made this historic marathon possible for us. May God have mercy on our martyrs and give good health to our veterans. We’ll wait for you in Baku after 380 km."

After the official speeches, the National Anthem was played. After that, the ultra-marathon race was started.

Athletes from Turkiye, Mexico and Moldova are competing in the marathon with 64 participants. In the race, which will last until March 4, the participants will reach the finish line in Baku after covering 380 km.

It should be noted that ultra-marathon participants will move in the direction of Khankendi - Yevlakh (83 km), Yevlakx - Ujar (84 km), Ujar - Hajigabul (88 km), Hajigabul - Gobustan (70 km) and Gobustan - Baku (55 km).
