Idman.biz reports that Sevda Mirzayeva, representative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, said this in her statement to journalists after the opening ceremony of the Winter Azerbaijan Athletics Championship.
The official of the institution said that this year is the Olympic year: "This competition is a preparation for the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games. Also, the national winter championship creates a chance for our athletes to better prepare for the world and European championships in athletics that will be held this year. Athletes from six regions of our country will test their strength in the competition. All this proves that the sport of athletics is developing in our regions. The fact that our athletes will fight together in the competition will further increase their experience. We believe that we will witness successful results in this competition."
It should be noted that the winter athletics championship will continue until January 27.
