Argentine forward Lionel Messi is not considering a short-term loan move to Newell's Old Boys despite growing speculation about a possible return to his homeland.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the 39-year-old intends to fulfil his contract with Inter Miami, which runs until December 2028.
Earlier reports suggested that Messi could temporarily return to Newell's Old Boys, the Argentine club where he played during his youth career before moving to Barcelona. However, Romano has dismissed the speculation, confirming that no negotiations are taking place between the parties.
"There is no chance for Messi to leave on loan," the insider stated.
Moreover, sources close to Inter Miami suggest that the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner has not ruled out extending his contract with the American club beyond its current expiration date.
Messi continues to play a decisive role for Inter Miami. In his most recent appearance against New England Revolution, the Argentine provided an assist for German Berterame's goal in the 69th minute before scoring the winner himself in the 83rd minute to secure a 2-1 victory.
The result lifted Inter Miami into second place in the MLS Eastern Conference, one point ahead of New England with just one round remaining in the regular season.
The victory also secured Inter Miami direct qualification for the 2027 CONCACAF Champions Cup, further underlining the club's ambitions on the continental stage.
