Russian figure skater Veronika Zhilina has responded in her own unique way to the International Skating Union’s (ISU) decision not to allow her to change her sporting citizenship.
The athlete shared a humorous video on her personal social media account regarding the situation, Idman.biz reports.
In the footage, Zhilina is seen hanging from the edge of the rink boards with the caption: “When you hear today’s news…”
The ISU Council meeting took place on July 4–5 in Lausanne. In May 2025, Zhilina had announced that she had received an Azerbaijani passport. However, the Executive Committee of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (RFSF) did not issue her a release document.
RFSF President Anton Sikharulidze stated that Zhilina is a member of the Russian national team and cannot join another national team. He also emphasized that they do not understand why the athlete has not been participating in domestic competitions.
