19-year-old Japanese ski jumper Asahi Sakano has died.
Idman.biz, citing Nordic Magazine, reports that the tragedy occurred in early July in the Chuo district of Sapporo, Japan.
While the details remain undisclosed, it is reported that the young athlete fell from a window of a residential building. He was immediately taken to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save his life due to the severity of his injuries.
Asahi Sakano represented Japan in four editions of the Junior World Championships between 2022 and 2025. He was part of the mixed team that won a silver medal in 2023 and made his World Cup debut in Sapporo in January 2024.
