Reports indicate that Russian figure skater Veronika Zhilina’s transfer to the Azerbaijani national team has not yet been confirmed by the International Skating Union (ISU).
Idman.biz, citing Sputnik Azerbaijan, reports that although Zhilina has not competed for the Russian national team over the past two years, the ISU’s primary requirement remains an official release from the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR).
Despite recently obtaining Azerbaijani citizenship, her official change of sporting nationality has not yet been approved by the Russian federation.
Key discussions surrounding Zhilina’s case are expected to take place during or ahead of the ISU Junior Grand Prix event, scheduled for September 24–27 in Baku. ISU officials are also expected to attend the tournament.
Zhilina’s future in international competition remains uncertain until a final decision is made.
