Anastasia Papatoma: “Representing Azerbaijan at the Olympics is a great honor”

Azerbaijani alpine skier Anastasia Papatoma, who has secured an Olympic quota, has shared her emotions ahead of her upcoming participation in the Winter Olympic Games in Italy.

As reported by Idman.Biz, the 17-year-old athlete emphasized that competing at the Olympics alongside the world’s strongest athletes is a major challenge for her.

According to Papatoma, her main goal is to approach the competition in optimal physical and psychological condition and to deliver the best possible result. “I will compete with special pride, first of all for Azerbaijan and for our team, which has always supported me,” Azertag quotes Papatoma as saying.

The skier also highlighted the significance of her participation given the current status of the sport in the country. “Considering that alpine skiing has not yet become widespread in Azerbaijan, this is a double responsibility for me. Since childhood, I have loved snow, winter and skiing. The desire to test myself and achieve the highest possible result in this sport led me down this path. I believe that alpine skiing in Azerbaijan will develop more actively in the future,” the athlete said.

Speaking about her preparation for the Olympic Games, Papatoma noted that her training process is built on a systematic and high-quality foundation. “Along with regular training, I completed a special stage of preparation in Shahdag. In addition, professional physical conditioning, a proper recovery process and strengthening psychological resilience are all in focus,” she stressed.

It should be noted that the Winter Olympic Games will take place from February 6 to 26 in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. Azerbaijan will be represented at the Games by two athletes: Anastasia Papatoma and figure skater Vladimir Litvintsev.
