Raducanu stuns Osaka to reach Washington Open quarter-finals

Emma Raducanu continued her impressive run at the Washington Open, defeating four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to reach the women’s singles quarter-finals. The 22-year-old, who previously eliminated seventh seed Marta Kostyuk, delivered a composed and dominant performance against the former world number one.

Idman.biz, citing BBC, reports that Raducanu broke Osaka's serve three times and saved key break points to seal the win in just over 80 minutes. She now faces wildcard Maria Sakkari in the last eight after the Greek star knocked out second seed Emma Navarro.

The 2021 US Open champion is also enjoying success in doubles, reaching the semi-finals with partner Elena Rybakina after beating Giuliana Olmos and Aldila Sutjiadi 7-6 (8-6), 6-4. They will next face second seeds Shuai Zhang and Taylor Townsend.

Raducanu is set to become British number one in the upcoming WTA rankings update.
