Paula Badosa has announced she will be sidelined for several weeks after suffering another back injury, putting her participation in next month’s U.S. Open in doubt.
Idman.biz, citing Reuters, reports that the world number 10 and former world number two confirmed a tear in her psoas muscle, the key muscle connecting the lower back to the leg, following her first-round loss to Katie Boulter at Wimbledon earlier this month.
Badosa has endured a difficult few years with repeated injuries, including a chronic lower back condition that once had her considering retirement. However, she made an impressive return to the top 10 this season.
In a statement on Monday, Badosa expressed disappointment at the latest setback but remained hopeful about recovering in time for the U.S. Open.
