"Baku is not only the World Capital of Sport but also the world capital of aquatic sports," European Aquatics President Antonio Silva has declared.
As reported by İdman.Biz, Silva made the statement to journalists on the final day of the European Aquatics Congress, held in Baku from October 8 to 10 and jointly organized by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation.
Silva recalled that Baku hosted the inaugural European Games in 2015, emphasizing that 11 years later, the Azerbaijani capital is celebrating its status as the World Capital of Sport.
The European Aquatics president also highlighted the recent organization of the opening stage of the Silk Road World Cup in Baku in cooperation with World Aquatics.
According to Silva, the second stage of the competition took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, while the third was held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
He noted that the European Aquatics Congress featured a forum and several conferences addressing key issues related to the development of aquatic sports.
Silva emphasized that Baku has firmly established itself on the international sporting map, particularly in aquatic disciplines, thanks to its experience in hosting major competitions and international gatherings.
The European Aquatics president concluded by expressing his gratitude to Azerbaijan's Minister of Youth and Sports, Farid Gayibov, and Azerbaijan Swimming Federation President Zaur Aliyev for their contributions to organizing the congress.
