Oktay Atayev, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation, has emphasized the importance of the European Aquatics Congress in Baku for the future development of aquatic sports across the continent.
As reported by İdman.Biz, Atayev made the remarks to journalists on the final day of the congress, which is taking place in the Azerbaijani capital from October 8 to 10.
"As is well known, Baku was selected as the World Capital of Sport for 2026. Our capital has hosted international sporting events at the highest level. The European Aquatics Congress is one of them," Atayev said.
He recalled that Baku hosted the Swimming World Cup last week and is now welcoming representatives of European Aquatics, describing the two events as evidence of the international sporting community's confidence in Azerbaijan.
"The future of aquatic sports on the continent is being discussed here. Moreover, hosting this event in Azerbaijan makes our federation an active member of the European aquatic sports family," Atayev emphasized.
The official noted that the congress provides an important platform for discussing the development of aquatic disciplines and strengthening cooperation between national federations.
The European Aquatics Congress, held from October 8 to 10, brings together representatives of national federations, sports officials and experts to exchange experiences and discuss key priorities for the future of aquatic sports in Europe.
