"Baku, which holds the title of World Capital of Sport this year, has hosted a number of international sporting events," Azerbaijan's Minister of Youth and Sports, Farid Gayibov, has said.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the minister made the remarks during his speech at the European Aquatics Congress held in the Azerbaijani capital.
Gayibov highlighted the successful organization of the Swimming World Cup in Baku last week, describing the competition as a major achievement for the country's sporting community.
He also praised the work of the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation, emphasizing the strong public interest in sport and the country's commitment to hosting international competitions.
The minister recalled that Azerbaijan has previously hosted major multi-sport events, including the European Games and the Islamic Solidarity Games, which have helped strengthen the country's position on the international sporting calendar.
Gayibov noted that Azerbaijani athletes had the opportunity to compete in the recent World Cup and expressed confidence that they would achieve positive results at future European and World Championships, as well as the Olympic Games.
According to the minister, Azerbaijan's efforts to develop and promote aquatic sports extend beyond organizing international competitions and congresses.
He explained that various development projects are being implemented across the country, while foreign specialists are also being invited to share their expertise and contribute to the growth of aquatic disciplines.
The European Aquatics Congress, held in Baku from October 8 to 10, brings together representatives of national federations, international sports officials and experts to discuss the future development of aquatic sports.
