Chungcheong 2027 Universiade promises a high-tech and sustainable games experience

Organizers of the 2027 Universiade, to be held in the South Korean city of Chungcheong, promise innovative games.

According to special correspondent of Idman.biz in Germany, during the presentation of Universiade 2027, it was announced that modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G broadcasting, and advanced transport management systems will be used at the event.

Thanks to these systems, spectators will be guided to stadiums more easily. The Organizing Committee aims to harmoniously combine tradition with innovation through this approach.

Environmental sustainability is also one of the main pillars of the event's organization concept. The organizers stated that they will prioritize using existing infrastructure over building new facilities (currently, only two new venues are being constructed for tennis and gymnastics). Additionally, sustainable development will be ensured through eco-friendly accommodation, waste minimization, and the use of clean food products.

President of the Organizing Committee, Kang Chang-hee, presented the plans for hosting a multi-format event in the Chungcheong region.

According to the decentralization concept, neighboring cities – Daejeon, Sejong, Chungbuk, and Chungnam – will unite under the name “Chungcheong Metropolis” to jointly host the games in a single integrated area.

The organizers stated that through the games, they aim to introduce the world to a "new wave of Korean culture" that blends tradition with sports. The opening and closing ceremonies will showcase both globally beloved traditional Korean culture and regional characteristics.

Vice President of the Organizing Committee, Lee Chang-sub, said: “Chungcheong is the center of the Korean Peninsula, so we embody both Korean and local culture. For instance, we have our own dialect and our culture slightly differs from other regions of the country.”

He also spoke about the selection of three additional sports included in the 2027 Universiade program: “As for beach volleyball, one of our host cities, Boryeong, is famous for its mud festival. We want to combine this festival with the Universiade to create a more festive atmosphere.

We already have an excellent facility for rowing and plan to use it. Golf is popular among both the youth and elderly. Moreover, our athletes are very strong in this sport and we believe they will win gold medals.”
