“Our much-anticipated 2025 competition season is finally upon us, and it kicked off in style with an amazing ACRO display in Luxembourg!”
This statement was made by Farid Gayibov, President of European Gymnastics (EG), in his regular President’s Notes column published on the federation’s official website, Idman.biz reports.
Gayibov also highlighted the key events that took place in April.
“Our much-anticipated 2025 competition season is finally upon us, and it kicked off in style with an amazing ACRO display in Luxembourg!
First during the European Age Group Competitions, then during the European Championships for juniors and seniors, Acrobatic Gymnastics once again showed its magic energy and proved its entertainment value to a worldwide audience. The gymnasts mesmerized with their daring skills in creative routines, showcasing a competition at the greatest level.
What impressed me a lot was the number of countries participating. ACRO continues to grow, and we welcomed some new countries! For the first time, Türkiye sent gymnasts while Denmark competed in the senior ranks for the first time, with not one but two units. This is only possible thanks to the continued efforts of our Technical Committee, led by its President Carine Charlier. They provide interested federations with experts for development workshops and continued advice, in addition to the highly popular annual training camp, aiming to grow the discipline throughout Europe. A special shoutout to Carine as she completed her last ACRO Europeans as TC President. Thank you for your dedication, enthusiasm and leadership!
It was such a pleasure to be back in Luxembourg after they successfully hosted the 2022 TeamGym Europeans. I’m thankful to the Luxembourg Gymnastics Federation for being so active, and for the high level of organisation. Seeing one of our smaller Federations enthusiastically put its shoulders under our events, with a long-term strategy of further developing these disciplines -and gymnastics in general- surely sets a great example.
During these events, LA28, the Organising Committee of the 2028 Olympic Games, announced its expanded Sports Programme. I’m thrilled to see a Mixed Team Final added in Artistic Gymnastics. European Gymnastics debuted this format at the European Youth Olympic Festival and it will feature on the programme of the upcoming European Championships in Leipzig for the first time.
Last weekend, the European Cup returned to my hometown Baku, where it debuted exactly a year ago. A new format part of the European Gymnastics 2030 Strategic Plan, the European Cup launched exciting ‘Cross Battles’ where gymnasts go head-to-head in knock out stages. Started last year with individuals only, this year groups were added. It’s fast, it’s short, it’s interesting, everyone loves it. We aim to expand this idea to other disciplines in the future!
Coming up next week is the second stage of the European Cup in Rhythmic Gymnastics. The Bulgarian coastal resort Burgas will host this for the first time. Then, our flagship events will follow each other. From 26 to 31 May, we’ll witness the battle for the new European Champions in Artistic Gymnastics, held this year in the German city of Leipzig in the framework of the German Gymnastics Festival. Immediately after, from 4 to 8 June, our continent’s best Rhythmic gymnasts will fight for continental glory in the Estonian capital Tallinn.
I want to wish our athletes all the best while preparing for these important events!”
