The 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles will make history as the first edition to hold the opening ceremony across two stadiums.
The LA28 organizers have confirmed that the event will take place on July 14, 2028, at both the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium, Idman.biz reports.
The Coliseum, which also hosted events during the 1932 and 1984 Olympics, will additionally stage the closing ceremony on July 30. This will make it the first venue in history to host events during three separate Olympic Games.
The Paralympic Games opening ceremony is set for August 15 at SoFi Stadium, home to the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, while the closing ceremony will be held at the Coliseum on August 27.
Details on how both stadiums will be used during the opening ceremony have not yet been disclosed.
The Coliseum, which serves as the home field for the USC Trojans college football team, will host athletics events during the first week of the Olympics. SoFi Stadium will stage swimming competitions during the second week.
The LA28 program will also feature several sports returning to the Olympic stage after a long absence, including cricket, lacrosse, and squash, while flag football will make its Olympic debut.
