Azerbaijani UFC fighter Rafael Fiziev has said that he is not considering moving up from the lightweight to the welterweight division, despite previously saying it was a possibility.
Following his confident victory over Ignacio Bahamondes at the UFC event held in Baku, Fiziev has decided to continue competing in the lightweight division, Idman.biz reports.
"Low Kick MMA" quoted Fiziev as saying: "I’ve gained more weight now, my muscles have recovered. After proper preparation, my muscles have grown. In this state, I can't drop down to featherweight. Lightweight is a good option for me."
"Throughout my career, there have only been one or two fighters who agreed to fight me. The first was Rafael dos Anjos, the second was Justin Gaethje. I called both of them and they said: 'Yes, let’s make the fight happen.'
With others, it's always been the same: I call someone, and then the UFC offers me someone else. I also called Dan Hooker – if he’s ready, I’m ready to fight. Dariush... Right now I don’t know who’s available without a fight. Gamrot... Whoever is ready, if the UFC offers me someone, I’ll gladly accept the fight. But right now I can’t name anyone specifically and say: 'I want to fight him.'"
