The cause of death of Arif Mammadov, president of the Azerbaijan Karate-Do Federation, has been disclosed.
Idman.biz reports that the federation’s press service announced the news.
It was stated that he passed away at the age of 47 in the city of Trabzon, Turkiye.
Mammadov suddenly developed health problems in Batumi, Georgia. Doctors diagnosed him with pulmonary frostbite (lung freezing). The patient received treatment in the hospital for over three weeks and was in a coma during that time. His condition subsequently worsened. Afterward, he was transferred to a hospital in Trabzon, Turkiye, to continue treatment. Despite the doctors' efforts there, it was not possible to save his life.
47-year-old Arif Mammadov was a three-time world and five-time European karate champion. Since 2022, he served as the president of the Azerbaijan Karate-Do Federation, and since 2021, he was the vice president for Europe of the World Modern Combat Sports Federation. In 2014, he was awarded the honorary title of "Honored Sports Master of the Republic of Azerbaijan," and in 2015, "Honored Coach of the Republic of Azerbaijan."

The cause of death of Arif Mammadov, who had been heading the federation since 2023, has not been disclosed.
Efforts are currently underway to repatriate the body of the federation president, who was a World and European champion.
Prior to leading the Karate-Do Federation, Mammadov served as the deputy chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
