Azerbaijani athletes have won one silver and two bronze medals at full-contact Shinkyokushin karate competitions held in Latvia and Russia.
İdman.Biz reports, citing the Azerbaijan Karate Federation, that the national team claimed two medals at the European Championships in Riga, Latvia.
In the U21 category, Zamin Farajov finished second in the 75 kg division to win the silver medal. Maharram Ahmadov took third place in the 65 kg category and secured bronze.
The Azerbaijani delegation at the European Championships also included Azerbaijan Karate Federation vice-president Allahverdi Rustamov, referees Mubariz Malikov and Mayil Abdullayev, as well as coach Mehdi Ahmadov.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijani representative Emin Ismayilli also reached the podium at the 34th Andrey Yakutov Memorial International Shinkyokushinkai Karate Championship held in Novosibirsk, Russia.
Ismayilli finished third in the under-75 kg category to claim another bronze medal for Azerbaijan.
Thus, Azerbaijani karate fighters finished the two international competitions with a total of three medals – one silver and two bronze.
