Zelim Kotsoyev became the European champion

The European Judo Championship was concluded in Montpellier.

Idman.biz reports that on the last day of the competition, three members of the Azerbaijan national team stepped on the mat.

After defeating all his opponents Zelim Kotsoyev (100 kg) won the title of European Champion. This was the second gold medal of the Azerbaijani team in the Continental Championship.

Murad Fatiyev (90 kg) faced Lasha Bekauri (Georgia). Fatiyev was defeated and stopped fighting.

100 kg
Zelim Kotsoyev knocked out Harry Lovell-Hewitt (Great Britain), followed by Zlatko Kumric (Croatia) in the first round. He defeated Nikoloz Sherazadishvili representing Spain in the 1/4 finals. Zelim defeated Matvey Kanikovsky (AIN) in the semi-finals. Kotsoyev competed with Georgian Ilia Sulamanidze for the gold medal in the final. Having won the decisive match, the Azerbaijani judoka became the European Champion and sang the Azerbaijani national anthem for the second time in France.

Ushangi Kokauri, who was released from the preliminary stage, faced Marius Fizel (Slovakia) in the 1/8 finals and lost.

It should be noted that the Azerbaijan national team won a medal at the European Championship. Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg) rose to the highest level of the victory podium.
