At the European Gymnastics Congress held in the Czech Republic, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Farid Gayibov, was re-elected as the President of the organization.
According to Idman.Biz, based on today’s voting results, Farid Gayibov will continue his presidential duties.
The election saw incumbent Gayibov competing against Croatian Mario Vukoja. Gayibov won with a vote of 27 to 23.
Gayibov was first elected President of European Gymnastics in 2017, succeeding Frenchman Georges Guelzec. At that time, serving as Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, Gayibov secured 28 votes, surpassing his Slovenian opponent Edward Kolar by eight votes. He became the first Azerbaijani to lead a sports federation for an Olympic discipline.
He was re-elected in December 2022 in Albufeira, Portugal, as the sole candidate, receiving all 44 votes.
In today’s elections, another Azerbaijani gymnastics federation representative, Ruslan Eyvazov, was also elected for the second time to the Technical Committee for “Gymnastics for All.”
