Liverpool’s 16-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha became the second youngest player in Premier League history to score a match-winning goal.
Ngumoha, a member of England’s U-17 national team, scored in the second round of the Premier League against Newcastle (3-2), Idman.biz reports.
Substituted on for Cody Gakpo in the 90+6th minute, the young player scored just four minutes later, securing three points for his team.
According to Opta, at 16 years and 361 days old, Ngumoha came very close to Wayne Rooney’s record. Rooney had become the youngest player to score a match-winning goal in 2002 for Everton against Arsenal. Ngumoha was just one day older than Rooney at the time of his achievement.
