Former Barcelona Star Reveals Guardiola's Secret to His Success

Former Barcelona and Spain international Pedro Rodriguez has revealed how Pep Guardiola played a decisive role in his development as a footballer, helping him establish himself among Europe's elite.

As reported by İdman.Biz, the 39-year-old former winger spoke about his relationship with Guardiola in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, emphasizing the trust and guidance he received from the legendary coach.

"I think Pep saw my desire to succeed. He believed in me and explained what I needed to do to improve. I always trusted his ideas and football philosophy," Pedro said.

The Spaniard also recalled a memorable conversation with Guardiola ahead of the 2011 UEFA Champions League final against Manchester United, which Barcelona won 3-1 at Wembley.

"On the Monday of the final week, he called me into his office and asked if I was ready to play. I told him I was. He then said I would be in the starting lineup. He wanted me to press the opposition, shoot whenever I had the opportunity and play my usual game. He knew exactly how to motivate me," Pedro recalled.

The forward went on to score Barcelona's opening goal in that final, helping the Catalan giants secure another European title.

Pedro also admitted that his early years at Barcelona were far from easy. While developing at the club's famous La Masia academy, he struggled with being away from his family and repeatedly asked his father to help him return to Tenerife.

Reflecting on the current Barcelona team, Pedro expressed confidence in the squad led by Hansi Flick. He believes the new generation shares certain similarities with the side that dominated European football under Guardiola and has the potential to achieve sustained success.

Discussing his future, Pedro revealed that he intends to take a break from football before considering a possible career in coaching or as a football agent.

Pedro retired after a 20-year professional career during which he won 25 trophies. In addition to Barcelona, he represented Chelsea in England and Roma and Lazio in Italy.
