Huitema’s goal secures Seattle reign draw against Houston Dash

Jordyn Huitema scored in the 65th minute to help Seattle Reign earn a 1-1 draw against the Houston Dash on Sunday. The Canadian forward notched her third goal of the season by deflecting Sofia Huerta’s service into the box with her head.

Idman.biz, citing Reuters, reports that Huerta, a defender in her 10th NWSL season who previously played two years in Houston, set a league record with her 32nd career assist. After a scoreless first half, Houston took the lead just under two minutes after halftime when Yazmeen Ryan dribbled around Seattle keeper Claudia Dickey for her second goal of the season.

The tie gave Houston at least a point in their fourth consecutive match, while Seattle settled for their second consecutive draw. The Reign, tied with Portland for fifth place, remain in a playoff position, while Houston sits in 11th, two points behind eighth-seeded Gotham FC.

Houston controlled possession for most of the match, with 14 shots but only two on target. Seattle had five shots, two on goal. The game’s start was delayed 20 minutes due to extreme heat.
