Elnur Chodarov: "Spaniards prioritize individual development"

Shamakhi’s coach Elnur Chodarov has traveled to Spain. As part of the PRO coaching license course, he is doing an internship at the club Betis. Former Betis player Vali Gasimov helped arrange Chodarov’s internship at the club.
According to Idman.biz, Chodarov shared his impressions of the trip with Sportal.az.
He said that because of his interest in Spanish football, he planned to do his internship in Spain: “The Betis option was suggested by Vali Gasimov, the head of our academy at Shamakhi. There were one or two other options, but after researching, Betis seemed the most suitable for me. Thanks to Vali teacher, my trip here became possible through him.
The PRO license requirements used to be a bit different. Previously, it was possible to complete the internship by familiarizing yourself with the work principles of both the main team and the academy at the same club. Now, however, they require that the internship be done at two different clubs, one with the main team, the other with the academy.
I came to Betis’ academy. I was welcomed there by the academy director Miguel Calzado. On the day I arrived, Betis B team was playing a friendly match preparing for the new season. It was a very interesting game. After the match, I had a detailed conversation with the reserve team’s head coach.
Later, I visited the academy. There, I met Tino Luis, head of the Coaches Department. Tino first talked to me about the principles of working with coaches, how they select and develop them, and so on. Betis’ academy has 70 coaches divided into five categories: head coach, assistant coach, analyst coach, fitness coach, and goalkeeper coaches. At every training session for young age groups, at least three coaches participate; for older groups, it’s four or five.
What I noticed is that the Spaniards place greater emphasis on the individual development of children. They pay attention to technical, tactical, physical, psychological aspects, in short, everything. They are so sensitive to this issue that if there is any developmental delay in a child’s body, doctors work individually to ensure healthy growth. Because there are bodily defects that can only be corrected up to a certain age, after which it’s impossible. Therefore, doctors, physiotherapists, and coaches conduct special work with such children.
All training sessions of the youth teams are video recorded. Then analysts make notes and work specifically on areas where each player has deficiencies. What is taught in theoretical sessions is already set as requirements in matches for players. It is explained in detail who should do what in the game and how.
Finally, I was invited to the academy’s internal meetings to explain their work structure. There I saw how this structure operates. I witnessed reports, assignments, and discussions of current issues.”
