Although “Qarabag” has added Jonatan Montiel, a former player of Spain’s “Rayo Vallecano”, to its squad, his name has not been included in the squad list for the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round match against “Shkendija”.
Since the player has only recently joined the team, his participation in tomorrow’s match was already unlikely. There might have been a slim chance for him to feature in the return leg in Baku, Idman.biz reports.
However, according to Qarabag's press officer Anar Hajiyev, who spoke to Qol.az, the Spanish player will not be able to take part in either leg against Shkendija. The reason is that his name was not registered for the third qualifying round.
“According to the regulations, the name of a new player can only be submitted to UEFA no later than one day after the end of the previous qualifying round. In Montiel’s case, his name had to be submitted after the return match against Shelbourne. But he was only transferred to our club yesterday. For this reason, he could not be included in the squad list,” he explained.
Jonatan Montiel will only be registered for the play-off round.
