Interview with Sabah’s Croatian Midfielder Ivan Lepinjica for Futbolinfo.az
– You defeated Petrocub in both Conference League matches (2–0, 4–1). Did you expect to eliminate them so easily?
– We had prepared very well for both matches against Petrocub. In the first leg, we had some difficulty converting our chances, but in the end, we achieved a very good result for the return game at home. We finished the job in Baku.
– How would you evaluate Joy-Lance Mickels’ performance in the return match, where he scored three goals? It seems Valdas Dambrauskas’ arrival has benefited him the most...
– He was phenomenal, what else can I say?! He scored three goals and provided an assist – a complete MVP performance.
– Your next opponent in the Conference League is Levski. How do you rate your chances?
– Two tough games await us, so we have to prepare well. But I think we have a good chance of progressing to the next round.
– Including the matches against Celje, Sabah has proven to be a team worthy of respect in all its European matches this season. Do you believe the team has the potential to do even more and perform better?
– Absolutely, it does. I think we’re on the right path. The first games of the season are always difficult; the team needs time to grow and improve. I believe we’ll perform stronger and better with each game.
– Since Valdas Dambrauskas’ arrival, what change in training, tactics, or player treatment has pleased you the most?
– The head coach wants us to play attractive football and control possession. He wants the team to reach the highest level possible. I really like this approach, and I think we, the players, will benefit a lot from Dambrauskas’ experience in the future.
– Like Sabah, other clubs have also made solid transfers and are taking the championship seriously. Do you agree this suggests a more competitive season ahead? What are your expectations for the new Premier League season?
– Every season is highly competitive, and I think the league is growing each year. Yes, the upcoming season will also be very competitive. But we must focus on our game and how we want to play. Our goals are always high, and as always, we will give our best this season.
