Real Madrid recorded their worst expected goals (xG) figure in a La Liga match in more than 11 years during their derby defeat to Atletico Madrid.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing Opta Analyst, Real generated just 0.32 xG in the 2-1 loss to their city rivals in the seventh round of the Spanish championship.
In comparison, Diego Simeone's Atletico produced 2.38 xG, underlining the difference between the teams in terms of the quality of chances created.
According to Opta, Real Madrid had not registered such a low xG figure in a La Liga match since February 2015. Remarkably, that performance also came against Atletico.
On that occasion, Simeone's side thrashed Real Madrid 4-0 in the Spanish capital. Carlo Ancelotti was in charge of Los Blancos at the time.
The latest derby defeat also affected Real's position near the top of the standings. Atletico have collected 16 points and sit second in La Liga, while Real Madrid are fourth with 15 points.
