AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim has recalled his spell at Manchester United while discussing his team's recent run of three matches without a victory.
As reported by İdman.Biz, Milan returned to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 victory over Lecce in the fifth round of Serie A.
Before that success, Amorim's side had gone three games without a win, drawing 1-1 with Juventus and 2-2 with Lazio in Serie A before suffering a 2-0 defeat to Benfica in the UEFA Europa League.
"In the last few matches, I had the same feelings as at Manchester United, and I don't want to repeat the mistakes I made before," Amorim told DAZN Italia.
The Portuguese coach stressed that a manager sometimes needs to adapt his system to the qualities of the players available rather than insist on a single tactical approach.
"Sometimes we don't have the right qualities to play in a certain style, and in those situations we have to adapt. I think it worked today. In another game, we can go back to building up with three defenders. The important thing is to have different ways of playing," he said.
Amorim added that tactical flexibility is particularly important in Serie A because of the quality of coaching in Italy.
"This is especially important in Italy, where there are very intelligent coaches who know how to use man-to-man marking effectively. When they don't understand exactly what we're trying to do, it becomes harder for them to read our movements – just as it can sometimes be difficult for me to understand how their teams play," Amorim added.
The victory over Lecce ended Milan's three-match winless run and allowed Amorim's side to regain momentum in the domestic championship.
