Manchester United eyes Watkins and Sesko amid striker search

Manchester United have identified Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko as top striker targets, but any move hinges on offloading current squad members before the 1 September deadline.

Idman.biz, citing Reuters, reports that Watkins, 29, remains under contract with Villa until 2028, and the club is reportedly unwilling to sell, though United hope their stance may soften closer to deadline day. The £60m price tag is considered too steep by United’s board.

Sesko, 22, scored 13 Bundesliga goals last season and is also on Newcastle’s radar amid uncertainty over Alexander Isak’s future. Meanwhile, Rasmus Hojlund, who managed just 10 goals in 52 games last season, remains manager Ruben Amorim’s first-choice forward despite mixed pre-season form.

United have already spent £130m this summer on attackers Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, plus defender Diego Leon. Further arrivals may depend on sales, with Rashford now at Barcelona and players like Sancho and Garnacho omitted from the U.S. tour.
