An interview with Croatian goalkeeper Vjekoslav Tomic, who played for Hajduk (Croatia) from 2007 to 2010 and formerly wore the jersey of Azerbaijan’s Khazar Lankaran, to AZERTAC.
- Your former team Hajduk will face the Azerbaijani representative Zira in the Conference League. How do you evaluate their chances in this match?
- Last year, Zira faced another Croatian team, Osijek, in the Conference League. The opponent confidently won in the penalty shootout and advanced to the next round. I think Hajduk is stronger than Osijek. If we assess their chances, our team is ahead. Zira doesn’t have very high capabilities.
- You were born in Split, the city represented by Hajduk. Have you received any information about Azerbaijani football and Zira?
- No one from Hajduk has asked me about Zira. They have a very good scouting team and handle it themselves. I don’t have much information about the Azerbaijani club either.
- What can you say about the current condition of the opponent team?
- Hajduk has recruited new players this summer. The head coach is also new. There are certain changes. They have a big chance to beat Zira and advance to the next stage. One of Split club’s strong points is their defense line; they play reliably there. Also, they have an experienced and important player, Marko Livaja, who can play anywhere on the field. He will make a difference in both matches.
- You have previously played in Azerbaijan for Khazar Lankaran. What are your impressions of the country?
- Your country was magnificent and still is. Baku is a beautiful city with good stadiums. Football here has developed in recent years. The Qarabag team performs successfully in European competitions and manages to reach the group stage every year.
- Which Azerbaijani club would you like to work for?
- I would like to try myself as a coach in Azerbaijan and Turkiye. Both countries are dear to me.
