Spanish court has sentenced Brazil national team coach and former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti to one year in prison for tax fraud committed in 2014. The Madrid Provincial Court also fined him over €386,000 to be paid to tax authorities.
Idman.biz, citing Euronews, reports that Ancelotti was acquitted of similar charges for 2015 due to lack of evidence about his residence in Spain that year.
Under Spanish law, prison time is usually not mandatory for non-violent offenses with sentences under two years if the individual has no prior record, so Ancelotti is likely to avoid jail by settling his dues. However, he will be barred from receiving public aid, subsidies, tax benefits, or social security incentives in Spain for three consecutive years.
During the April trial, Ancelotti said he acted on legal advice from Real Madrid and tax consultants and denied intent to defraud. He settled the outstanding debt in December 2021. Ancelotti managed Real Madrid from 2013-2015 and 2021-2025 before becoming Brazil’s head coach, aiming to win the 2026 World Cup.
