“We want to build on this victory,” said Ravan Karimov, a member of Azerbaijan’s national minifootball team, in an interview with Idman.biz following their historic win at the WMF World Cup held in Baku.
Idman.biz reports that reflecting on the tournament, Karimov emphasized the intensity of the competition and the weight of representing their country on home soil:
“There was a huge sense of responsibility playing in front of our fans. We approached every match with full seriousness, but the toughest game was undoubtedly the early final against Romania.”
He also shared that the team had a clear goal from the beginning: “We came into the championship with one objective—to become world champions. All our preparations were aligned with that goal, and thankfully, everything went exactly as we hoped.”
For the first time in history, Azerbaijan clinched the world title by defeating Hungary 4–2 in the final.
