A major scandal has erupted in Spanish football as police have uncovered deliberate match manipulation involving Sevilla defender Kike Salas.
According to El Confidencial, Idman.biz reports that Spanish authorities have confirmed Salas’ involvement in betting fraud, proving that he intentionally received yellow cards in La Liga matches for financial gain.
Police examined messages on Salas' mobile phone, revealing that he informed friends in advance about the matches in which he planned to get booked.
At least five such incidents have been officially documented.
Bets were placed using the accounts of Salas’ acquaintances, with the profits split 60-40 — 60% going to Salas and 40% to his collaborators.
The case against the 23-year-old defender was opened back in January, and authorities are currently investigating at least 10 yellow cards received by Salas during the 2023/2024 season.
In the current LaLiga season, Salas played 30 matches, scoring 3 goals, providing 2 assists, and receiving 6 yellow cards.
Now, the young defender is facing serious consequences — up to 3 years in prison if found guilty.
This development marks yet another alarming case in the growing intersection between professional football and illegal betting.
