Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick commented on his team’s 2:0 victory over Guadalajara in the Copa del Rey round of 32, placing special emphasis on goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s first appearance of the season, Idman.biz reports.
The German specialist highlighted the importance of the goalkeeper for the team and explained why the cup match became his season debut.
"He is the captain and very important for the team. Today he had the opportunity to play, and I gave it to him in a competition like the Cup. I respect him. This is another step for him. That’s all," AS quotes Flick as saying.
Speaking about the match itself, the Barcelona coach noted that cup games always demand maximum focus.
"Playing in the Cup is never easy, but in the end the most important thing is attitude and mentality, and the players showed that," Flick added.
The coach also praised the resistance shown by the opponents, who play two divisions below.
"Such matches are never easy; your attitude on the pitch is the key to victory. Both teams showed it, and the win went to us," Flick said.
