Tadej Pogacar to skip Vuelta a Espana for rest after fourth Tour de France win

Tadej Pogacar announced he will skip this year’s Vuelta a Espana to rest after clinching his fourth Tour de France title. The 26-year-old UAE Team Emirates rider sealed his victory on Sunday following three weeks of commanding performances, though fatigue set in during the final stages. Pogacar previously won the Tour in 2020, 2021, and 2024.

Idman.biz, citing Reuters, reports that in a statement, Pogacar said, “After such a demanding Tour, we decided it was best to take a break.” He expressed his fondness for the Vuelta, recalling great memories from 2019, but acknowledged his body needs rest now.

Looking ahead, Pogacar plans to return to competition in September for the Canadian one-day races in Quebec and Montreal, which suit his racing style. His main focus will be the UCI Road World Championships in Rwanda, where he is the defending champion.

Though yet to win the Vuelta a Espana, Pogacar earned three stage wins and the young rider classification during his only appearance in 2019.
