Rasul Ibrahimov: "Khagan Ahmad has defeated Carlsen twice in online tournaments"

Azerbaijani chess player Khagan Ahmad's victory over world number two Hikaru Nakamura is an exciting and memorable achievement.

Idman.biz reports that this was stated by the 13-year-old chess player's coach, Rasul Ibrahimov, in an interview with Report.

He shared his thoughts about Khagan's victory over the American grandmaster at the World Team Rapid Chess Championship held in London, England: "This is a pleasant and memorable victory. Every week, there are traditional tournaments on the Chess.com platform. Khagan has experience in these tournaments. He tries not to miss them. In fact, he has defeated Fabiano Caruana (USA) and even Magnus Carlsen (Norway) twice in online tournaments. But online tournaments are considered semi-serious. There can always be doubts about whether someone is using electronic tools, but over-the-board chess is completely different."

Ibrahimov also mentioned that it is not always easy for Khagan to compete with famous chess players in a tournament: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Turkish Airlines team. We are grateful to them for creating such an environment. This is very beneficial for the chess player's experience. But the joy of winning a title is something else entirely. His victory over Nakamura was unexpected. He is known as a blitz master. Even though it was an online event, Khagan has the experience of playing against such grandmasters."

He also spoke about Khagan's future prospects: "He is a talented child. He has great potential. He is under the supervision of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation. However, in order for his talent to be fully realized quickly, he absolutely needs sponsorship support. Without it, it will be difficult to reach the highest levels."
