The National Championships in rapid and blitz chess for men and women have started, jointly organized by the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

It was noted that at the opening ceremony, Ilaha Gadimova, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, wished the participants success.
The national championships in rapid and blitz for both men and women are each held over 9 rounds according to the Swiss system, in accordance with the “FIDE (International Chess Federation) Rules of Play.” The total prize fund for the men’s and women’s championships is 10,000 AZN. Thirty-two men and twenty women are competing in the tournament. The chief arbiter of the Azerbaijan Championship is Lutfiyar Rustamov.
It is noted that the top three players in the championship will be sent by the Azerbaijan Chess Federation to participate in the World Championship.
