Opening ceremony held for Azerbaijan vs Uzbekistan women’s chess match

The match serves as a qualifier for the World Championship, with both teams aiming to showcase their best players ahead of the event in Linares, Spain.

Idman.Biz reports that the opening ceremony in Baku began with the national anthems of both countries.

Following this, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov delivered a speech, wishing the participants success and highlighting the friendship between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, Faiq Hasanov, also spoke, noting that they would witness exciting games during the match. Minister Farid Gayibov made the first move to officially open the encounter.

The Azerbaijan national team is participating with the following lineup: Gunay Mammadzade, Gulnar Mammadova, Khanim Balajayeva, Govhar Beydullayeva, and Ulviya Fataliyeva. The team captain is European champion Qadir Huseynov.

The World Championship will take place from November 18-23 in Linares, Spain.
