Azerbaijan’s women’s chess team will face Uzbekistan in a qualifier for the World Championship, to be held in Linares, Spain.
Idman.Biz reports, citing the Chess Federation, that the prestigious tournament will feature the host nation Spain, the top four teams from the 2023 World Championship – Georgia, France, Kazakhstan, USA – as well as teams selected from each continent based on world rankings: China, Ukraine, Peru, Egypt, India, and FIDE.
The 12th spot for the World Championship will be determined in the match between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. The qualifier will take place on November 1-2 at the “Dinamo” Hotel in Baku.
The winner of the two-day rapid match will earn a place in the World Championship, scheduled for November 18-23.
Azerbaijan’s squad for the match includes Gunay Mammadzade, Gulnar Mammadova, Khanim Balajayeva, Govhar Beydullayeva, and Ulviyya Fataliyeva, with European champion Qadir Huseynov serving as team captain.
