“Our goal now is to fight to the end in the 9th–16th place matches and achieve the best possible result,” said Farrukh Mahmudov, Vice President of the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation (ABF), in an interview with AZERTAC, evaluating the U-18 women’s national team’s performance in the European Championship Division B, Idman.biz reports.
The ABF official noted that this was the team's debut in the tournament and considered the results successful: “In the first match of the group stage, we achieved a historic victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, a first in the history of our women's basketball. In the game against Ukraine, our girls fought until the end but were ultimately defeated. That match was crucial in terms of advancing from the group. We then secured wins against Iceland and Kosovo. I believe we successfully completed the group stage of the Division B European Championship, which we participated in for the first time.”
Azerbaijan finished third in Group C after defeating Kosovo 62:54 in their final group match.
