Ganja handed 20-0 forfeit defeat in FIBA Europe Cup

Azerbaijan's Ganja basketball club have been handed a technical defeat for their unplayed FIBA Europe Cup group-stage match against Bulgarian side Rilski Sportist.

As reported by İdman.Biz, the competition's official schedule now records the result as a 20-0 victory for the Bulgarian team.

The Group C third-round encounter was originally scheduled for October 21 in Samokov, Bulgaria. However, the match could not take place due to difficulties affecting the Azerbaijani team's travel arrangements.

On October 19, FIBA issued an official statement confirming that the fixture would not be played and that the matter had been referred to the FIBA Europe Single Judge for review.

The international basketball governing body did not disclose the specific reasons behind the travel difficulties.

Following the confirmation of the forfeit result, Ganja sit sixth and last in Group C, with one victory and three defeats.

The Azerbaijani side recorded their only win of the competition so far on October 28, when they pulled off a surprise 69-67 victory over Portugal's Sporting.

Ganja will play their next match on November 4, travelling to Romania to face Universitatea Craiova.

Under the FIBA Europe Cup format, the top two teams from each group advance to the second round.
