“It wasn’t easy this season,” said Sabah basketball club head coach Rimas Kurtinaitis in an interview with Idman.biz.
The experienced coach, who celebrates his 65th birthday today, shared his thoughts on their victory over Neftchi in the final series of the Azerbaijan Basketball League, which crowned them champions. Kurtinaitis noted the recent progress in Azerbaijani basketball:
“We are defending the title, what we got last season. This season was much stronger than last one. Because it's better Americans. And so, the local guys play much better than last season. For all the teams, not just for us. And for sure it was tough.”
Sabah secured their third consecutive gold medals by winning their fourth game in the final series (4:2), and earned the right to compete in the FIBA Champions League.
