Evren Alkaya has stepped down as head coach of the Azerbaijan women's national basketball team.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation and the Turkish specialist have ended their cooperation by mutual agreement.
Alkaya had worked within the federation since 2022. In addition to leading the senior women's national team, he was also in charge of Azerbaijan's U16, U18 and U20 girls' teams.
During his tenure, Alkaya served as head coach of Azerbaijani teams in more than 70 official FIBA games.
Under his leadership, Azerbaijan's U16 girls' national team won the FIBA European Championship Division C title in two consecutive years, triumphing in both 2023 and 2024.
The country's U18 girls' team also achieved success with Alkaya at the helm, claiming the silver medal in Division C in 2024.
Throughout his time in Azerbaijan, the Turkish coach placed particular emphasis on the development of young basketball players and preparing them for progression to the senior national team.
