The 2026 Wrestling World Championship will be held in Bahrain for the first time in history.
Idman.biz, citing Sportnet.az, reports that the tournament will take place in the capital, Manama, from September 5 to 13.
Until now, no Arab country has hosted a Wrestling World Championship, making Bahrain the first to enter history in this regard.
Faris Al Kooheji, Secretary General of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, and Nenad Laloviс, President of United World Wrestling (UWW), made a historic statement and signed the relevant agreement.
Laloviс stated that they aim to rotate the hosting of the World Championship across continents regularly.
Al Kooheji emphasized that the event will bring significant economic benefits to the country: "We will attract many fans from Iran, the USA, and other countries."
Bahrain won its first historic Olympic wrestling gold at Paris 2024. Last year, Ahmed Tazhudinov claimed the gold medal in the 97 kg weight category. In 2023, he also became world champion in the same weight class. Tazhudinov is additionally an Asian champion and Asian Games winner.
